What Does a Modern-Day Christian Woman Look Like?
As Christian women, we often wonder how God wants us to behave. Let’s explore the different characteristics that make up a modern-day Christian woman. Each quality is backed up by Scripture to help you understand the message of God.
Follows God Above Everything
“Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” – Proverbs 31:30
An essential characteristic of a modern-day Christian woman is that she is a faithful follower of God to strengthen her marriage and herself. Everything she does is done for the Lord’s name and not for her own vanity. She understands that Jesus taught about loving one’s neighbor, family, and friends.
Modest in a Deeper Way
“For by the grace given me, I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.” – Romans 12:3
Many understand modesty as dressing in a certain way that fits society’s standards to avoid being labeled “indecent.” Does that mean a modern-day Christian woman can’t dress beautifully?
If you read the Bible, you should know that modesty has nothing to do with clothing and everything to do with attitude. Modesty is the trait of not being too arrogant about one’s achievements, behaviors, and other aspects. It means having the right attitude and heart.
Guides Younger Women into Godliness
“Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” – Titus 2:3-5
This Bible verse is often associated with the spouse of a deacon. However, it should be applied to any godly woman who yearns for God’s blessings.
“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.” – 1 Peter 4:9
Hospitality isn’t complex for Christians because we have always been a minority in a hostile world. You can practice this trait by welcoming everyone you meet regardless of their background, as Jesus saved everyone from sin.
Practices Self-Control and Self-Discipline
“For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” – Galatians 5:17
Having self-control means the Holy Spirit lives within you. It also means you display our God and his gospel because God is self-controlled.
Stays a Witness for God in Her Marriage
“Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives when they see your respectful and pure conduct.” – 1 Peter 3:1
It’s always best for both spouses to be believers. But if you start dating a non-believer, you should stay faithful to the Lord and let your life be a witness for God to him.
